My iPhone's Podcasts app never alerts me when new episodes are released, even though notifications are enabled. I read that these may be handled as background notifications, meaning the app needs to remain open in the background instead of being force-quit. Does anyone else have this issue?

Are you force-quitting the Podcasts app? Background notifications may not be processed if you swipe the app away from the recent-apps screen.
Yes, I usually close every app that way. I didn’t realize Podcasts needed to stay in the background for notifications to work.
