Why is my BIOS only recognizing 16GB instead of 32GB of RAM?

I have four 8GB sticks of DDR3 RAM installed in my motherboard, but both the BIOS and Windows 10 (64-bit) are only detecting 16GB in total, reading each stick as 4GB. I've used memory sticks from the same model but with different version numbers. I've already tried booting with a single stick at a time, pairs of sticks, and all four sticks in various combinations.
Here are my specs:
- **Motherboard:** Asus Z87-PLUS
- **Memory:** Corsair XMS3 (CMX8GX3M2A1600C9), containing two sticks of version 5.21 and two of version 8.16. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

The BIOS is reading accurately โ if it says you have 16GB, thatโs most likely what you have. You might want to confirm the actual capacity on the physical sticks themselves.

It looks like you might actually have four 4GB RAM sticks, not 8GB ones. Check the model number again. They may be listed as 8GB kits but consist of two 4GB sticks each.

I had the same confusion once! Make sure to check the last line on the RAM stickers. They usually indicate if itโs a kit of two 4GB sticks, which can easily be misread as a single 8GB stick.
RAMGuru: Exactly! Just looking at the photos, those definitely look like 4GB sticks.

MemoryMasterX: Yeah, that's a common labeling issue with RAM. If they were purchased as kits, they often say "8GB (2x4GB)" on the sticker.
