Whenever I share my screen in Discord or stream through OBS, the video becomes very choppy and runs at a low frame rate. My monitor is an AOC Q27G42ZE, a 27-inch 1440p display running at 240 Hz, and I'm using Windows 11. My internet connection gets about 170 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload. The PC itself has an RTX 5060 Ti, 32 GB of RAM, and a Ryzen 7 5700X. Could the monitor, operating system, internet connection, or another part of my setup be causing the poor streaming performance?

The 20 Mbps upload speed may be the main limitation, especially if other devices or applications are using upload bandwidth at the same time. Try enabling QoS or traffic prioritization on your router, and make sure backups, file syncing, and other uploads are paused while streaming. Ethernet is preferable to Wi-Fi, but it doesn’t eliminate congestion on the connection itself.
The Ryzen 7 5700X and the rest of the listed hardware should be capable of handling screen sharing and streaming, so the monitor’s refresh rate is unlikely to be the direct cause. I’d first check for upload saturation and competing network traffic before blaming Windows or the display.
I’m already connected through Ethernet, but I’ll check the router’s QoS settings. If that doesn’t help, I’ll contact my ISP to ask whether there’s an issue with the upload connection.
