For about a month, my iPhone 12 has been blocking certain websites with a message saying the site is restricted. The blocked sites include adult-content websites and even the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine. This happens in Safari, Chrome, DuckDuckGo, and a Tor browser, and it continues over cellular data, my home Wi‑Fi, and a friend's Wi‑Fi. I've also tried several VPNs connected to different regions without any change. Search results can still show adult images, so the restriction seems to affect specific websites rather than search content. I'm 22, nobody else has access to my phone or accounts, and I don't have antivirus, parental-control, or safe-search apps installed. Automatic content filtering appears to be disabled. My Apple account's birth date is older than my actual age because I created it as a minor, so it shouldn't identify me as underage. What could be causing this, and where should I look to remove the restriction?

Because the block occurs on both cellular and unrelated Wi‑Fi networks, checking your own router probably won’t solve it. You can still inspect the router for parental controls, custom DNS, or filtering, but the stronger clue is that the setting is attached to the phone itself. If Screen Time and device profiles are clean, back up the phone and contact Apple Support before considering a full reset.
An Apple account’s age usually isn’t the only thing that can trigger this. Check whether Screen Time is enabled, whether a content filter is configured through a VPN or DNS service, and whether iCloud Private Relay or a custom DNS app is involved. Temporarily disabling those services one at a time can help identify which layer is applying the restriction.
That makes sense. I originally suspected my home network, but the same sites are blocked on cellular and another person’s Wi‑Fi, so I’ll focus on phone-level settings first.
