The newly released Claude Sonnet 5.5 looks like a strong model, especially for its price, but I can't offer it to users who require EU-based inference because there doesn't appear to be an EU cross-region profile. Most other Anthropic models, aside from Fable, have EU availability. Since Opus 5.5 is available in the EU, I expected Sonnet 5.5 from the same family to be supported as well. Is the global-only availability temporary, or is there a specific reason for the restriction?

It may simply be too early to tell. The model had only been released a few hours earlier, so AWS might not have provisioned enough regional capacity yet. Global inference may be the initial option while demand and capacity are evaluated, rather than a permanent limitation.
A managed-service rollout does not always include every region immediately. EU availability could require additional capacity, compliance work, or demand testing, so it’s probably too soon to conclude that the model will never receive an EU profile. The safest assumption is that regional support may arrive later unless AWS documents otherwise.

That’s what I’m hoping, although AWS often makes new models available at launch. Since Sonnet 5.5 is already offered globally, I was wondering whether the lack of an EU profile was an intentional long-term decision.
