After my family upgraded to a new router, I noticed a huge difference in internet speed between my devices. My phone is getting over 100 Mbps, while my laptop struggles at only 5 Mbps. We have a fiber optic connection, so I'm confused about why there's such a big gap. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

I had a similar issue until I turned off my AVG antivirus. Once I did, my speed shot up to 120 Mbps! Not sure why that made such a difference, but I’m not complaining.
You might want to check a couple of things. First, see how far away you are from the router and what frequency band your laptop is connected to (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz). Sometimes settings in the router's configuration can affect the speeds too.
I think I'm on the 2.4 GHz band. I don’t have access to the router settings though.
Sounds like you need to dive a bit deeper into what’s happening. What are the model numbers of the router and your laptop, and is your laptop connected via Wi-Fi or Ethernet? Also, what speed are you hoping to get from your internet service? By the way, I noticed you mentioned MBps; it’s probably Mbps you meant since a megabyte is 8 times more than a megabit.
Thanks for the heads up! My laptop was getting around 100 Mbps before the router switch, and yeah, I mixed up megabytes and megabits.
That sounds wild! But now my speeds are back to just 15 Mbps. What’s going on?!
