I'm looking to upgrade my aging GTX 1080 Ti, which has served me well but is finally on its last legs. I want suggestions for a replacement GPU that offers good value for the performance I can get. While I'm not working with a strict budget, I don't want to break the bank either. What do you recommend?

You should really consider what you want the GPU to do. If you’re gaming at 1080p and found the 1080 Ti suitable, then a second-hand 1080 Ti could be a cost-effective option. If not, go with the 5070 Ti or the 4080 if you can manage it. The 5070 Ti is great for the price and will handle most current games well.

Yeah, but keep in mind some newer games require ray tracing. The 1080 Ti might struggle with those.

Good point! Still, if they're looking for better performance, moving up might be wise.

If you're looking for a great upgrade, the RX 9060 XT 16GB is around $360 and offers about a 30% performance boost. If you're willing to spend a bit more, the 5070 is priced at $560 and performs twice as well. For top-tier performance, the RX 9070 XT will set you back $730 and is about 2.5 times faster. If you're really after power, the 5070 Ti is also a solid choice at $830 with similar performance to the 9070 XT. Just pick your poison!

The RX 9070 (non-XT) is a great option too, especially if you undervolt it. It's usually priced about $100 less than the XT version.

I've seen the 9070 priced around $630 lately, just so you know!

Honestly, just go for the 5070 or 5070 Ti if you can find them at retail. Both of those will drastically outperform your old 1080 Ti. If you're looking to stay under $500, the RX 9060 XT 16GB or the regular 5070 is a good shout too!

Before you decide, think about your overall system. Are you swapping just the GPU or upgrading the whole rig? What resolution and refresh rate do you game at? I’m in the same boat; my 1080 Ti died too. I'm going for a full system upgrade because I want to really maximize performance at high refresh 1440p or 4K. I'm eyeing the 5080 as the 9070 doesn’t quite match my needs.

The 5070 Ti could be your best bet right now. It has 16GB of VRAM, supports DLSS, and fits in well with Nvidia's software. If you're open to waiting a bit, Nvidia might release a 'Super' version of the GPU refresh that could have 50% more VRAM soon. With the way pricing is right now, waiting a few months could get you a much better card!
