What’s the Best Way to Update Google Chrome in a Managed Environment?

I'm working in a company that's a bit outdated when it comes to managing software updates, which means all applications have to be updated manually. Some users tend to install Google Chrome but then stop using it. This leads to our systems showing vulnerabilities during scans because Chrome isn't updated. I'm looking for efficient ways to update Chrome without relying on traditional management tools. I've tried using a batch file to launch the GoogleUpdate app, but it didn't work. Any recommendations?

You might want to consider using PowerShell for this. A better approach could be to remove personal installs of Chrome and switch to the enterprise version instead. If you have budget for it, using tools like PDQ can simplify the process a lot.

If users are not actively using Chrome, it might be best to just remove it altogether. Keeping apps that aren’t in use can create unnecessary vulnerabilities.

I’ve been using Heimdall on my personal device to keep third-party apps updated automatically. For work, you could just install the Chrome enterprise MSI over existing installations, or use group policy in Active Directory to enforce updates. But remember, if users don’t launch it, the updates won’t happen.

Is Chrome available through winget? I’ve tried winget for different applications in our setup, but it hasn't worked smoothly. If I could get the Winget Auto Update tool working, I’d be all in!

You can check out Ninite Pro; it could be a good solution for managing application updates like Chrome.
