I'm heading to Vancouver for a weekend soon and I'm considering picking up some components for a new PC build I have planned for next month. I'm interested in knowing which stores I should check out that offer better pricing compared to Microcenter. Are there any significant savings to be had that would make the trip worthwhile? Also, since I've never crossed the border before, what should I know about bringing items back home?

It really depends on what city you're in, but Memory Express and Canada Computers are solid choices. If you're coming from the US, you'll definitely find your dollar has strong buying power here. I've been in the business, and often my pricing is lower than in the US, especially when you factor in the exchange rates and taxes. Many components are sourced from Taiwan and China, so we have great access to them compared to places farther away.
If you're a fan of DeepCool products, you'll want to know that they aren't sold in the US, but you can find them in Canada. When crossing the border, you'll likely need to fill out a customs declaration form regarding any goods you purchased. You can bring back the first $800 USD worth of items without any duties, although customs officials usually don't bother you if you keep it under that limit. If you happen to have an old PC, bringing it along means you could technically return with another one without issues, but since you mentioned you can't bring your old tower, just aim to stay under the $800 limit, which should be pretty doable! Plus, your partner can also submit a declaration, effectively giving you $1600 worth of leeway, not counting cases or monitors, which sounds like a solid plan.
That's good to know! Keeping it under $800 seems easy enough, especially if we can combine our limits. Really appreciate the info!
I'm not sure about prices specifically, but you might want to check out Canada Computers and Memory Express for in-store shopping. They both have physical locations, and you could also order items for pickup at an Amazon Locker if you prefer that. Generally, Canada Computers has better prices, while Memory Express is known for better customer service. Just keep in mind that there’s a 12% VAT on all electronic parts, which could add up.
Thanks for the recommendations! I'll definitely give those stores a look when I'm there.
Awesome, I'm in Vancouver, so I think those stores will be super convenient!
