Is My Dell Latitude 5300 Good for Running Linux?

I just purchased a used Dell Latitude 5300 laptop that comes with an i5 8th generation processor, 16GB of DDR4 RAM, and a 256GB NVMe SSD—all for £85! While I think it's an amazing deal, I'm curious if this machine will be sufficient for running Linux. I've been dabbling with Linux for years, but this will be my first dedicated device specifically for Linux experimentation. Should I feel confident about this purchase, or would I have been better off with something newer?

Driver issues can crop up, particularly with the WiFi card, but since it's an Intel card, you should be good to go. Just watch out for any BIOS restrictions, though they're rare.

Honestly, even a 15-year-old ThinkPad would handle Linux fine, so you're really in a good spot. Enjoy your portable Linux experience!

That's great to hear! I do have a gaming rig, but I'm looking forward to having a dedicated Linux laptop to mess around with. Glad to know I'm on the right track!

You might want to check out some migration tips to ease the process. Just be cautious with root access and third-party software. Your setup should work nicely, especially since Dell has a history of good hardware support for Linux.

Absolutely! That setup is definitely good enough for Linux. You shouldn't have any issues running your favorite distros on it.
