I have a .fm file that's 2.1GB, and I'm wondering if there's a way to make it smaller. I want to avoid zipping the file and just need to compress it down. I'm using Linux Mint with the Cinnamon desktop, and my file manager is Nemo. Any tips?

One option to reduce file size is to edit the content of the file to include less data. If you're working with Football Manager files, keeping the database lean can really help.
You might want to consider using compression formats like 7z or bzip2, but since you mentioned you don't want to zip it, reducing the content is really your best bet. Also, .fm files might not compress well anyway, depending on what they contain.
Since your .fm file is from Football Manager, it’s important to note that these files can grow quite large due to the depth of the simulated seasons. If you really want to shrink it down, try starting a new save with a smaller database size or reduce the simulation detail.
Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely check that subreddit for more advice.
