Why is my GPU temperature spiking unexpectedly?

I recently changed the thermal paste on my GPU and was experiencing normal temperatures of 30 degrees at idle and 60 degrees during heavy gaming. However, my GPU temperature has now increased to 50 degrees at idle and has hit a staggering 90 degrees while playing GTA Online. This is the highest it's ever been for my RX 5700 XT, and I'm concerned. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

First, check if all your GPU fans are operational and make sure the case fans are also running smoothly. Dust can often block airflow, so it's worth checking that too. Have you noticed any changes in CPU temperatures recently? Also, if you’ve done any overclocking, that could be a factor.

It sounds like your GPU fans are working well and your airflow is good. Just be sure to verify that your card isn't getting dust buildup. You mentioned that the idle temp jumped to 73 degrees, which is a concern. Have you tried using MSI Afterburner? It can help check if the core voltage and wattage are within OEM specs. If everything seems fine, the cooler might need to be remounted for better contact with the GPU.

Yeah, if the cooler isn't making good contact, it can definitely cause overheating. Just be careful when remounting it!
