Hey everyone! I'm looking to upgrade my aging setup, as I've been using an i5-7600k for about 8 years now, and it's really struggling. I'm torn between the i7-14700k and the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. My focus is mostly on gaming performance, but I also tend to have a lot of tabs open and run Discord while gaming, so I'll need something that can handle that multitasking well. I'm hoping to find a CPU that will last me for another 5 years, and while I don't need the absolute highest settings, I do want stable FPS over anything else. The Intel i7 is around £140 cheaper than the Ryzen, but I'm open to spending more if it's going to be worth it in the long run. Any insights or personal experiences with these chips would be super helpful, alongside motherboard recommendations since I plan on doing a bit of overclocking! Here are my current specs: i5-7600k @ 4.3GHz, RTX 3070, 32GB DDR4 RAM (will upgrade to DDR5), and an 800W platinum PSU.

I say go with the 9800X3D if your budget allows. It's more powerful and will ensure better gaming performance over time. Just make sure you check if the added cost is worth it for your needs.
Honestly, I wouldn’t recommend the Intel 14th gen at all. The 9800X3D is where you want to be for gaming. It’s designed to handle gaming loads better than the Intel CPU in most scenarios.
The Ryzen 7 9800X3D definitely outperforms the i7-14700k when it comes to gaming. No matter what you compare, the 9800X3D consistently delivers better performance, especially in CPU-intensive games.
Yeah, it's all about whether that extra cash for the Ryzen is justifiable for you. If you want that performance without worrying too much about costs, the 9800X3D is a solid choice.
