What Do I Need for 100+ FPS at 3440×1440 on Ultra Settings?

I'm currently using an Intel i7 and an RTX 3070, but with my new monitor, I'm finding it underwhelming for more demanding games. I want to be ready for high settings in upcoming games like BF6 and GTA 6. Should I stick with the i7 or upgrade to an i9? Is the RTX 5070 good enough, or do I need to upgrade to a 5080? My budget is flexible, but I don't want to overspend unnecessarily to achieve those top-tier settings.

If you share the exact model of your i7, I could give a clearer recommendation. However, I think a 5070 Ti might be sufficient for smooth gameplay at ultra settings for the next few years. You won't need to upgrade your CPU unless you're planning on overclocking for serious gaming performance.

I'd suggest considering a Ryzen CPU with X3D architecture for optimal gaming performance looking towards 2025. Pair that with a 5070 Ti or 5080 (or wait for the rumored Super variants), and you'll be set!

But isn't that CPU better for 1080p? I’m aiming for 3440x1440 gaming here, and Intel generally performs better at higher resolutions.

For your setup, I'd recommend aiming for at least a 5070 Ti or a 5080. That's going to give you a solid chance at hitting 100+ FPS on ultra settings. I’m running a 4080 on a higher resolution and it's been great, though I’m already considering the jump to a 5090 for future-proofing.

That sounds a lot like my setup! I have a 14700k, 7900XTX, and 32GB of RAM, consistently getting over 100 FPS on most games without breaking a sweat. Just make sure your monitor's refresh rate can keep up with those frames!
