Can I Transfer My System SSD to a New Build Without Reinstalling Windows?

I'm in the process of upgrading my PC while keeping some old components, particularly my 990 EVO 2TB SSD. This drive has my Windows installation, along with all my programs and drivers, but I keep my documents on separate SSDs.

I'm considering just plugging the drive into my new build and seeing if it works. Is that a bad idea? I thought about cleaning up the drivers first, but I really want to avoid reinstalling everything. I'm moving from a B450 Tomahawk to an ASRock x870 RS, upgrading from a Ryzen 2700x to a Ryzen 7800x3D and swapping my GPU from an RTX 2080 to a 5070 Ti. Should I use something like sysprep ahead of time? Also, how can I ensure I keep my user account since I only have one?

From my experience, when I switched from an Intel Z370 motherboard with an i7-9700K to an X670 with a 7800X3D, I just plugged in my system drive without any issues. It booted right up after I installed the new motherboard drivers. This was on Windows 11, and I've heard it handles these transitions better than Windows 10, but it's worth a shot either way!

That’s good info! I'm still on Windows 10, but I might upgrade to 11 before I swap the hardware. I guess it'll be worth it if it helps.
