Is My Ryzen 9700X Running Too Hot at Idle?

Hey everyone! I recently upgraded to a Ryzen 9700X paired with a Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 cooler, moving on from an i7 7820X with a DeepCool Assassin III. I've been tuning the Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO) and memory timings and everything feels solid performance-wise. However, I'm concerned about the temperatures: my CPU idles around 47-50°C and draws about 28W at idle. During gaming (specifically The Finals), it hits around 70°C. Coming from an older 200W CPU that idled at 35°C and gamed at 54-60°C, I'm wondering if something's off here. I've noticed that the cores at idle are within the expected range of 31-36°C, but the "CPU IOD" is the hottest component at 48°C. I followed a voltage adjustment guide because my Gigabyte B850 EAGLE was running high voltages by default. Could someone take a look at my voltage settings in this image? (link) Also, is it unreasonable to expect lower temperatures from the Phantom Spirit? What kind of idle temperatures should I expect with a 9700X and this cooler while having PBO active? For context, my RAM is running at 6000 in 1:1 mode with an FCLK of 2000.

That looks pretty typical for AMD CPUs. They tend to draw higher power at idle compared to Intel chips, resulting in those idle temps hovering around 40-50°C. But under load, Intel usually ramps up higher. So, it’s all good!

Awesome, thanks for breaking that down! Quick question—do you think a VDDIO_MEM setting of 1.35V is safe? I saw it was auto-set to 1.4V earlier.

Honestly, those temps don’t sound too worrisome. As long as your load temps are in the 70°C range, which is pretty normal, the idle temps around 47°C are nothing to stress over. It's just how Ryzen chips run!
