Can I Use a USB WiFi Dongle with My TV for Internet?

I'm currently without WiFi at home because the only provider in my area charges $80 a month, which isn't something I can manage right now. I recently heard about USB WiFi dongles and was wondering if I could just plug one into my TV to access the internet. If that's possible, do you have any recommendations on which dongle to buy? I'm willing to spend a bit more on this since it's a one-time purchase rather than an ongoing bill that I can't currently afford.

It's important to understand that WiFi and internet service aren't the same. You need an internet source to connect to, like a router linked to a modem from an ISP. A USB dongle just gives WiFi capability to a device; it won't connect your TV to the internet directly unless you have an existing wireless network. If you're looking for solutions, consider exploring other internet options like satellite or mobile data plans you can share from your phone.

Absolutely! Many people overlook that point. It's better to evaluate if you can find local programs for affordable internet, especially if you're struggling. There might be more choices than you think!

Just to clarify, if you're considering a USB WiFi dongle for your TV, it may not work even if you find one since TVs typically don’t support the necessary drivers for these devices. A lot of smart TVs already come with built-in WiFi features. Also, if you’re thinking about using a phone hotspot, that can work but remember it will use your mobile data, which might not be ideal depending on your plan.

Unfortunately, a USB WiFi dongle alone won't solve your issue. These dongles are designed to provide WiFi capabilities to devices that can't connect to wireless networks, but they still need an existing WiFi network to connect to. Since you don’t have an internet service provider, there's no WiFi network available for the dongle to use. So, it'll be useless in your case since it won't magically get you internet.
