Is Upgrading Just My GPU Enough for Oblivion Remastered?

Hey everyone,

I was super hyped about the release of Oblivion Remastered, but my excitement took a hit when I saw the system requirements. My rig is starting to show its age—it's from 2018—but it still handles most games decently. Here's what I have:

- **CPU**: i7-6700
- **GPU**: GTX 1060 6GB
- **RAM**: 16GB

I'm wondering if upgrading just my GPU would make Oblivion playable, or if I'd be better off biting the bullet and upgrading my motherboard and CPU too. I'm not looking to drop around $800-$1000 for a full upgrade right now. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

What’s your budget looking like? You could probably stay under 400 CAD if you look for deals, but it might be tight for a significant GPU upgrade.

It's flexible, but ideally, I'd prefer to keep it under 400 CAD. Not sure how feasible that is!

The minimum requirements do state a 6800k, which is a step up from your current CPU. You might get some performance, but I'd suggest considering a balanced upgrade with something like the 7500f and AM5 board—then get the best GPU you can afford. It's tough to say if just the GPU will be enough without pushing your luck with the CPU.

Going for a new GPU is a good plan to see how it performs. If it’s insufficient, you can always upgrade your CPU later. Just keep it reasonable—maybe another 60 series GPU instead of going for the extremes.

Totally agree. Some folks think old CPUs can’t handle new GPUs, but it’s worth a try.

I think a GPU upgrade will definitely give you a noticeable boost for remastered Oblivion. Personally, I wouldn’t go for anything higher than the 4060, 7600, or 6700XT given your current setup. But if you find a good deal, used cards can give you a lot of value without breaking the bank!

I just upgraded my old setup with used parts and I saw an amazing boost—definitely worth considering that route!

You might want to look into snagging a used 3060 or 4060. If that doesn't cut it, then you can always consider upgrading your CPU and motherboard later on. I’d say it’s definitely worth trying a new GPU first!

That's a good point! If you can get a 3080 for around $350 on eBay, it might be a solid choice too.
