I accidentally broke my Surface Pro today, and now it won't turn on. I'm trying to access my notes on another computer but ran out of storage, and it seems like my notes haven't been syncing for weeks. I'm worried that I might have lost a chunk of my notes. If I buy more storage, will those missing files sync, or am I totally out of luck?

If your Surface is completely dead, you won't be able to sync any files even if you pay for more storage. However, you might be able to retrieve the files directly by pulling out the hard drive.
You should consider buying storage before trying to sync large files. In hindsight, it would have been better to upgrade your storage before the breakage. Better safe than sorry!
How badly is it broken? No screen, won't power on, or something worse? If the drive is intact, you may be able to remove it and use a USB adapter to access your files on another computer. Just keep in mind, if you had BitLocker enabled, you'll need that 48-digit key to access your drive elsewhere.
You could try removing the drive to recover your files; it’s worth a shot!
If it's just the screen that's broken, try connecting it to an external monitor. You might still be able to see your files and transfer them over.

Ugh, I totally feel you! I thought I had storage too but realized I was logged into the wrong account. Key to double-check that!
