Which Monitor Should I Choose for My RX 7700 XT: 1080P or 1440P?

I'm looking for advice on what monitor to buy to pair with my RX 7700 XT. My current monitor is a 21.5" 1080P, but it's showing green lines, which is really disappointing since it had a good pixel density. I feel like my gaming experience is limited by its 75Hz refresh rate.

I have a budget of $200 to $250 and am considering either a 24" 1080P or a 27" 2560X1440P monitor. I enjoy programming, but mostly I'm into immersive AAA games like Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA, The Last of Us, Final Fantasy, Elder Scrolls IV, Genshin Impact, and Honkai Star Rail.

At 1080P, I can fully utilize my monitor's refresh rate since it's less demanding, allowing me to hit 100 fps, which feels significantly better than 60 fps. However, I'm worried that some games will lose their sharpness at this resolution. On the other hand, a 1440P monitor would give me higher pixel density and potentially better HDR, which I prefer, but I know it might result in lower fps. I'm hoping technologies like FSR or Xess could help mitigate that loss. What do you think I should choose?

I loved my 1440p 240Hz Acer monitor with my 7700XT! The visuals were so smooth and much better than 1080P. I didn’t see a significant drop in performance either.

I'd recommend you go for a 1440P monitor! They're generally more future-proof and should last a while, especially with your RX 7700 XT, which can handle it well.

For great HDR on a budget, check out the AOC Q27G3XMN—it’s about $270. Many monitors claim HDR support, but this one actually does it right, providing you with a great experience.

1440P hands down! You can find some good 27" models with high refresh rates around that price, and it will definitely enhance your gaming visuals.

Definitely consider a 1440P with a high refresh rate. If the refresh rate doesn't satisfy you in gaming, remember you can always switch to 1080P and still enjoy higher frames. You're pretty much set either way!
