Hey everyone! My dad has an old PC setup with an i5 4590 CPU, 8GB DDR3 RAM, and an Asus H97M-E motherboard. Recently, we upgraded the HDD to an SSD and added another 8GB of RAM (so now it has 16GB total). He mainly uses the PC for light tasks like browsing, opening PDFs, and occasionally using Office programs like Word and PowerPoint. Now I'm considering a CPU upgrade to an i7 4790K to complete the upgrade, and I found one for about $50. Do you think it's worth it, or would the performance boost be negligible for the type of usage?

To be honest, if the i5 4590 is doing okay now, switching to the i7 won't make a big difference for the tasks your dad does. Those processors are pretty old and unless it's struggling currently, I'd say stick with what you have.
Honestly, it's probably not worth the upgrade to the i7-4790K just for light use. If he's not noticing any slowdowns, I'd leave it as is. You might want to check out the i7-4790 instead, which is cheaper and would likely serve the same purpose!
Thanks for the tip! I'll keep an eye on prices for the i7-4790 just in case.
I wouldn't fret about the upgrade too much. Given your dad's light usage, he likely won't notice much difference in performance. The $50 price for that CPU seems decent, and while it has hyperthreading for multitasking, it might not be a game-changer for browsing and office tasks.
That sounds reasonable! I'm glad to hear the upgrades have helped the PC, but it's good to know that I may not need to spend more for a tiny performance gain.

Thanks for confirming that! I just wanted to ensure any future upgrade was worthwhile.
