What should I upgrade first in my PC for better gaming performance?

I'm currently gaming at 1080p but want to boost my experience to 1440p. I originally built my PC for multiplayer games, but lately, I've been enjoying more RPGs and single-player titles. My setup includes a Ryzen 5600 CPU, ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F motherboard, 32GB of RAM, and a 3070ti GPU. I want to keep using my Corsair 4000d Airflow case for now. I'm not looking to upgrade everything at once, so I'd appreciate advice on the best order of upgrades. Any suggestions?

I’m in a similar position with a 5700x and a 3070 as well. If I were you, I’d upgrade to a 5700X3D, grab a cooler if you don’t have one already, then wait a bit. Your current GPU can handle 1440p on medium settings just fine. If you find it lagging later, then it’s time to think about a GPU upgrade. Also, keeping an eye on Ryzen 11 series might be smart for your future.

That makes sense! I think I’ll do the same. Thanks for the tip!

Your setup looks balanced enough for 1440p gaming. If an upgrade is on your mind, consider going for a 4070 Super or 5070 as your next GPU. That should give you a noticeable boost without needing an immediate overhaul of other components.

Before switching any parts, consider getting a 1440p monitor first. If you really want to upgrade components, the 5700X3D or 5800X3D along with an RX 9070 XT or 5070 TI would be solid choices for your needs.

Good idea! I was thinking of getting new hardware, but a monitor upgrade might be a game changer!

I’ve got a bit of an older build myself, but I’m playing at 1440p with a Ryzen 5 2600 and RTX 4060ti. It works well, even if I can’t utilize all the GPU's power. I think your best bet would be looking into AM5 for future upgrades, but if sticking with AM4, the 5700X3D is a good option. From there, upgrade to the 40 series or 50 series GPUs later.

It sounds like your current setup is pretty solid. Since you're looking to upgrade piece by piece, I recommend starting with the GPU. The 3070ti should still serve you well for a bit, so maybe look into upgrading to something like a 4070 Super or TI when you're ready. Down the line, consider a Ryzen 7800X3D and platform switch to AM5, especially as prices drop.
