How did my iPad update to iOS 18 without my consent?

I didn't want my iPad to update to iOS 18 because I've heard mixed reviews about the new Photos app and other features. I specifically turned off automatic updates to avoid this situation, but suddenly, a few days ago, I woke up to find that my iPad had updated overnight without any prompt for my password or any notification. Is there anything I can do about this unexpected update?

Yeah, there’s not much you can do now that it’s updated. Just live with it for a bit, I guess. If you really don't like it after a few weeks, you can upgrade again when iOS 26 drops.

Honestly, you might just have to get used to it. iOS updates can be pretty jarring at first, but a lot of times they just require some adjustment. Plus, iOS 26 is coming soon, so there's another update right around the corner!

The Photos app might seem worse, but it’s not as bad as everyone says. I use it all the time in my daily life, and you might find that you adapt to the changes. Just give it a little time. But if you're really unhappy, the next update may provide some fixes.
