Is it possible to create a single system that switches between a PS5 and a PC operating system? I'm really interested in building something like this if it can be done. What are the practicalities and how would I go about achieving this?

Simply hooking your PC and PS5 to the same monitor works too! Most monitors have multiple ports, so you can just switch between them easily.
It's not really practical right now. Technically, you could fit a PS5's internals into a large PC case along with PC components to create a sort of hybrid, but they wouldn't function as one system. Also, PS5 emulators are still in their infancy, so you might be waiting a long time for something reliable. You might be able to make your PC look like a PS5, though! There could be some custom Linux setups that might help with that.
You can't really combine them into a single OS, but you could house them in the same cabinet and use a source switcher. If you're set on having a single case setup, emulation might be your best bet, but that's still far from perfect. Also, getting a controller for gaming on your PC is a solid option!
You could look into something like the Ryzen 4700S desktop kit, but it won't deliver the exact PS5 experience you're after, unfortunately.
Have you considered using a KVM switch? I have several PCs hooked up to multiple monitors, and I can easily switch between them with a tap of a button. It's a pretty seamless way to handle multiple systems without needing to build a combined unit.

Yeah, but having everything in one case would look so cool!
