I'm building a PC focused on high-level gaming as well as productivity tasks like video editing and 3D rendering in Blender. I'm using a Zotac RTX 3060 and I'm trying to decide between the Ryzen 5 5600 and the Ryzen 7 5700X. I'd prefer to keep costs down if possible, but I want to make sure I'm making the right choice for performance.

For Blender render times, you want a CPU with solid multi-core performance. The 5700X nails that and will give you a boost in rendering speed compared to the 5600, but you'll see similar gaming performance. If gaming is your main focus, the 5600 is definitely a good option, but for production-heavy work, the 5700X pays off. Just keep in mind that the top-tier Ryzen 9 CPUs like the 5950X would give even more, but they're overkill if gaming is a priority.

So, should I definitely go for the 5700X then?

I recommend the Ryzen 7 5700X since it's a previous generation CPU that can serve you well for a few years. However, consider the Ryzen 5 7600 too! That would require an AM5 motherboard, but it allows for future upgrades. DDR5 RAM isn't that expensive, and I suggest going for 32GB, which should suffice for your needs.

The DDR5 setup seems a bit pricey for me right now, though.

If you're leaning towards productivity, the Ryzen 7 5700X is a great choice, especially if you can swing the price. While you might not see a massive difference in everyday tasks, it significantly speeds up rendering, exporting, and processing times. The Ryzen 5 5600 is still solid, but you might feel a pinch when you're multitasking, especially during intense tasks. Just make sure to avoid the non-X version of the 5700—it's not great for gaming!

How much time difference are we talking about? Is the upgrade really worth it?
