Why Does My PC Shut Down While Gaming?

Hey everyone! I recently built a new gaming PC with some solid components, including an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU and an RX 9070 XT GPU. However, I've been having a frustrating issue where my computer shuts down unexpectedly after about an hour of playing demanding games like Cyberpunk 2077. I've checked the temperatures, and both the CPU and GPU stay below 60 degrees, so I don't think that's the problem. I also made sure my BIOS and graphics drivers are up to date, and all the cables are properly connected. I'm at a loss for what else could be causing this. Any ideas?

Since your temps are fine, the next thing to consider is power delivery. Make sure you've got enough PCIe cables connected to your GPU; I recommend at least three 8-pins. Also, running a memtest could help rule out any RAM issues.

I did connect 3x8 pins to the GPU, and I monitor temps while gaming so those readings are accurate. I'll definitely give memtest a shot.

Don't forget to check if you've installed the chipset drivers from your motherboard's website. If the system goes black, try hitting Win+Ctrl+Shift+B to reset the graphics driver. Checking the event viewer might give you some clues about the crashes too.

If your PC is completely shutting off rather than blue screening, it could point to an issue with the power supply or its cables. Make sure everything is securely connected.

Have you tried using Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to wipe old drivers and reinstall the latest ones? Sometimes things can go awry with driver installations even if it seems like you did a clean install. It might solve the issue.

I'll try that today. Thanks for the tip!

Does your screen go black right away, or do you get a blue screen? That can be a clue to what's happening.

Just black screen, no BSOD.
