I'm getting ready to build my first PC and I have a list of the main components, but I'm wondering if there's anything else I should consider. For instance, do I need thermal paste or other supplies that aren't included with the main parts?

Don't forget that patience is key! Also, the I/O shield needs to go in before anything else. Just a heads-up, I used my PC for a year before I realized that little detail.
It’s probably a good idea to have another computer for downloading drivers and patches, plus a USB stick ready to install your operating system. A desk lamp is also super helpful since those tiny connectors can be hard to see in dim lighting!
Having a magnetic screwdriver set is a lifesaver when building! You'll also want to set aside a bit more time than you think. Building a PC can take longer than expected, especially for beginners. Just be prepared for some troubleshooting on the way!
Most coolers come with thermal paste already applied, so you might not need extra. Just make sure you have a couple of Philips screwdrivers handy and some zip or velcro ties for managing those cables. That'll keep things looking tidy!
Absolutely, good cable management makes a huge difference!
Remember to check for enough fan headers on your motherboard or get splitter cables if necessary. Oh, and make sure your PSU has enough cables; sometimes they come short. Extra screws and standoffs are also good to have just in case you lose one while building!

Oh man, I can relate! I figured that out the hard way too.
