I'm considering building a PC with an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D and an RTX 5080 Founders Edition. My main concern is whether an 850W power supply will be sufficient or if I should go for a 1000W unit instead. I'm looking to game at 1440p/4k and do heavy tasks like 3D rendering and video editing. Any insights on the wattage I should aim for would be appreciated!

850W is totally fine, but if you want some extra headroom, a 1000W supply could be a good investment for the future. It gives you room to grow if you upgrade your components down the line.
A good quality 850W unit will do the trick. I recommend going for an ATX 3 power supply with a native 12v2x6 cable for optimal performance.
An 850W power supply should be enough unless you plan on serious overclocking. If you're keeping things relatively standard, you should be fine!
Yeah, I don’t think I’ll be going for any extreme overclocking. I'll stick with the 850W, thanks for the reassurance!
I've got the same setup with an 850W Corsair PSU. Works like a charm! I game in 4K and usually see around 250-300W usage from the GPU and 60-80W from the CPU. You should be good!
Sounds promising! I think the 850W is definitely enough for my needs then.
If you're in the US, consider the Montech Century II 1050W. It's just $20 more than its 850W counterparts and offers great value as an A-tier PSU. Not absolutely necessary, but it's nice to have that extra buffer for a small price increase.
I'm getting the Corsair RM850x (2024) 850 W Fully Modular ATX Power Supply. Is that a solid choice?
