Is Linux Mint a Good Choice for My HP Laptop?

Hey everyone! I've been thinking about installing Linux Mint on my HP Laptop 15s-fq2xxx, which has an 11th Gen Intel Core i3 processor. The main thing holding me back is the fear of messing up my system. My first attempt was on an old Acer Switch, but I later learned that Acer laptops typically struggle with Linux. So now, I want to know if Linux Mint Cinnamon will run well on my HP laptop. Also, I'm considering the Lenovo Yoga Slim 6 for school and want to know if it can handle Linux, too. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I can vouch for Linux on HP laptops! I've used it on an old Acer, an Asus, and currently have it on both my HP desktop and a home-built one—all without any issues. You should go for it!

Before you start, check the release date of your GPU. Sometimes, Linux doesn't have drivers for really recent hardware. But I don't foresee any major issues with switching OS. Plus, it's smart to prepare a Windows installation USB just in case things go sideways. I’m running Linux Mint on a 2012 PC without any complaints!

Honestly, I say just give it a shot! Here are a few tips to help you out:
1. Make sure to free up some space if you're planning to dual boot.
2. Go ahead and install it on that space.
3. If it doesn't work out, you can always reclaim that space later.
It's pretty straightforward, and try using a separate EFI partition when installing for better management!

I've got an HP laptop and I can confirm that Linux Mint works pretty well on it! HP laptops aren't the best when it comes to Linux compatibility compared to Lenovo, but they're not the worst either. So, you should be fine!
