Hello everyone! I'm currently running an outdated setup with an i7 from the 4th generation and a Radeon RX 480, which definitely feels lacking today. I'm considering a major upgrade and found a pretty good deal on a used AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D along with an RX 6700 GPU, all on a compatible MSI X470 motherboard, plus RAM and storage for about 680€. My question is: would it be a smart move to get this setup to hold me over until the next AM6 platform comes out, or should I look into going for an AM5 build instead, like the 7500F or 7600, which are slightly more expensive but might offer better longevity? Thanks for your insights!

The 5700X3D is definitely a beast, especially for gaming! But if you can stash a little more cash, I say go AM5. It's rumored that we'll see at least one more generation of CPUs for that platform, which could be a bigger advantage down the road. If you're planning to upgrade in a couple of years, it's really the way to go.
Honestly, I think getting the AM5 is the better choice. With the prices for used parts, you won't want an AM4 system since its resale value will drop when AM6 arrives. Plus, the AM5 options are much easier to find and are a solid investment for longevity. I say go for it!
Exactly! AM5 has much better prospects for the future, and you'll be able to easily upgrade to newer CPUs as they come out.
If you can get that 5700X3D deal down to around 600€, it might be worth it. But keep in mind, even at 680€, you're essentially looking at a CPU that's still somewhat competitive. Just make sure your PSU is up to snuff, though. If you can find a good AM5 deal for just a bit more, I'd probably lean towards that instead.
I just made the jump to the 5700X3D, and let me tell you, it's fantastic! I run games at 1440p with no issues, but I'd still recommend thinking about AM5. If you're looking to invest for the long term and keep up with the hardware advancements, that's the better route.
For me, I'd lean towards the AM5, especially if the price difference is only 100-150€. The 7500F build you mentioned may not have the best GPU, but you can upgrade that as needed. In contrast, if the deal for the 5700X3D is still decent, it's tough to pass on, but very soon you'll want to look higher up for more advancements.
Yeah, I checked your prior post for builds, and I see the concerns with GPU. The 7500F build with the RX 7600 is okay for now; you might end up spending a little more on RAM, but overall, the AM5 path does look solid.

I agree. The future potential of AM5 is great, and prices for DDR5 are high now, but they might drop later. If the AM5 options you're considering are only a bit more expensive, I'd say it's a no-brainer.
