Hey everyone! I built my PC about a month ago and I've been experiencing a frustrating issue ever since. Whenever I activate the XMP profile, my PC becomes unstable and shuts down randomly. It doesn't follow any specific pattern; it might happen just after a few minutes or not for several days. Here are my specs:
- Motherboard: Gigabyte B650 Aourus Elite V2
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
- GPU: RTX 5070
- CPU Cooler: Thermalright Assassin's 120
- PSU: MSI MPG 850W
- RAM: Corsair Vengeance CL36-44-44-96
I initially suspected the power supply, so I replaced my old Corsair 850e with the MSI 850W, but the issue persists. I originally planned to buy AMD EXPO-ready RAM, but switched to Intel XMP-ready RAM at the last moment—could this be causing my problem? I've tried various frequencies (6000MHz, 5800Mhz, 5600Mhz, and 5400Mhz), and I'm also curious if running the PC without the XMP profile prevents shutdowns, which it hasn't so far. By the way, my PC is connected to a 1200W UPS. I noticed there's a new BIOS update (F37) from Gigabyte released on November 21 that I'm planning to try. Any insights would be appreciated!

Have you tried running a memory test like MemTest? If not, try booting with standard settings (non-XMP) to see if you still face shutdowns. Also, check your CPU temps—are you overclocking it?
Make sure your RAM sticks are correctly seated in slots 2 and 4. When enabling XMP, disable Low Latency Support and XMP/EXPO High Bandwidth Support for the initial boot. Intel XMP RAM should be fine, but double-check it’s on your motherboard's compatibility list. Sometimes, a BIOS update can resolve compatibility issues, so it’s good that you're planning to try that! If problems persist, configuring RAM timings manually might help, but it's a tricky path if you're unfamiliar with it.
The RAM is indeed in the correct slots and both options are disabled in BIOS. I can boot with XMP enabled, but it’s the random shutdowns afterwards that’s the issue. I've checked and the RAM is compatible.
First off, check the OEM RAM speed. If the PC won't boot after enabling XMP, it could be your motherboard not supporting the boosted speeds. That said, what’s the base speed of your RAM?
The base speed is 4800MHz, with a max of 6000MHz. It boots fine, but then the shutdowns happen randomly after that.
I attempted MemTest, but it wouldn't boot. I also tried the 6000 without XMP and it didn't work, took me to BIOS instead. My CPU temps seem okay, around 42-43°C in BIOS and idle at 52-53°C with some programs running.
