What Distro Should I Choose for a Mini-PC Plex Server?

Hi everyone! I've been using Bazzite for a while, and now I'm looking to fully transition away from Windows. I have a mini-PC running on an Intel N95 processor, which I'm using as a media server for my family. I mainly run Plex on it (don't judge, I got a lifetime license ages ago!). While I enjoy Bazzite, I'm thinking that a lighter distro could better suit my hardware. I'm considering Mint – will a new installation of Mint come with all the necessary codecs and drivers for running Plex? I won't be using this PC for anything else, so I'd love any tips you might have!

If you're looking to lighten up Bazzite, you might want to try Bluefin. You could even configure it to boot directly into the terminal instead of a full desktop to save resources. My advice would be to go for Bluefin, set it to run headless, and consider using a podman quadlet for Plex. Just a thought!

That sounds interesting! I haven't thought of that option before. I'm still getting the hang of working in the terminal, but I appreciate the suggestion!

You might want to steer clear of Bazzite since it can be a bit limiting. Mint tends to come with a lot of preinstalled stuff that you might not need for a server setup. Consider going with a straightforward distro like plain Debian or Fedora instead. You can keep it headless or install a lightweight desktop like XFCE if you want one. There are loads of guides out there for setting up Plex on those platforms.

I went for a minimal Debian installation without any desktop environment, and it's been fantastic for my server needs. Debian is reliable and has always been my go-to for server setups. Couldn't be happier with it!
