I'm starting to doubt whether a 1000W power supply unit (PSU) is adequate for my build. Here are my specs:
- Motherboard: ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E Hero
- CPU: Ryzen 9950X3D
- GPU: ASUS GeForce RTX 5080 ROG Astral OC (16GB)
- RAM: Kingston FURY Beast RGB DDR5-6400 (64GB)
- Cooler: ASUS ROG Ryuo IV SLC 360
- Storage: 4TB M.2 SSD, 2x 3TB HDDs (Seagate IronWolf, 5800 RPM), and 2x 1TB Crucial SSDs
- Fans: 12x Phanteks M25 Gen2 DRGB 120mm fans
- Case: Phanteks NV7 with LED kit and DRGB controller
My PSU is an ASUS 1000W ROG Strix. My calculations suggest I'm close to the 1000W maximum output. Should I consider upgrading to a 1200W PSU instead? I'm also thinking about swapping my M25 fans for D30s, but they're hard to find. In the future, I might want to add another 64GB of RAM or a display inside the case but nothing is planned soon. I primarily use it for gaming and development. Am I safe with 1000W or is it cutting it too close?

You'll likely be fine with a 1000W PSU. Realistically, your system won’t hit peak voltage very often, even under load. Going for a 1200W may give you some extra peace of mind, but it's not strictly necessary based on the specs you provided.

I aimed for 1000W to maintain efficiency during regular usage and gaming. A 1200W seemed a bit excessive at first.
