Is a 400W PSU with a 6-pin connector enough for an RTX 5060?

I'm asking for some advice on behalf of my cousin who recently received a prebuilt PC from Amazon, and it's not exactly the best. Here's what he has: a Ryzen 5 Pro 4650G CPU, 16 GB of DDR4 RAM, and he's currently using the integrated graphics. The PSU is an Xilence XP400 Performance C, rated at 400W, and he's got a Full HD monitor with a 100 Hz refresh rate. My cousin is interested in getting an NVIDIA RTX 5060 to improve his gaming experience, as he mainly plays esports titles. However, I'm concerned because the PSU only has a single 6-pin PCIe connector, while the RTX 5060 requires an 8-pin connection. I'm wondering if it's feasible or safe to run this GPU with the current PSU. Should he use a 6-pin to 8-pin adapter, or would it be better to just replace the PSU altogether? I'm looking for real-world experiences and recommendations that balance the cost and safety in this situation. Thanks!

If you're considering investing in an RTX 5060, it makes sense to upgrade the PSU too. The 400W is barely adequate even with lower power draw. Investing in a good quality 650W PSU could ensure you have headroom for future upgrades without the risk of issues.

The 6-pin connector can only deliver 75W, while the RTX 5060 needs around 145W. So, in theory, it might work if the PCIe slot can supply the extra 75W, but I wouldn't recommend pushing a cable to its limit like that. It's definitely safer to replace the PSU.

I get that you want to save some cash, but don't take risks with your setup. A quality PSU is crucial. You might find some splitters, but overall I suggest getting a PSU that can handle the requirements, maybe something around 550W. If something goes wrong, you might end up with a dead GPU.

The Xilence PSU isn’t the best choice for powering a powerful card like the RTX 5060. It's better to be safe and get something more reliable. Adapters can work sometimes, but they can also lead to problems down the line. For peace of mind, just replace it.

Honestly, I wouldn't trust any adapters for this setup. A 400W PSU isn't really robust enough for an RTX 5060. I’d suggest upgrading to at least a 500W PSU. It's just better to have the right cables for safety and stability. Plus, considering the Xilence brand isn't highly rated, a new PSU is probably a wise choice here.
