I'm looking for the best Linux distribution that can actually outperform Windows when using an NVIDIA 5060ti graphics card. I was initially installing Bazzite, but I found there's around a 20% performance hit with my NVIDIA card. Is there a distro that manages to perform better than this? Also, I own a Meta Quest 2 and would like to know how I can play it on Steam VR.

I've been using Cachyos for my NVIDIA setup and it's been pretty good—actually better than Windows in some games I've tried. It's worth giving a shot!

In my experience, Nobara is the best distro for NVIDIA cards right now. I've got a 4070 and it performs decently compared to Windows. Just keep in mind that the performance can vary depending on the game or application, so you might not see improvements across the board. Don’t switch to Linux just for higher FPS—focus on other benefits too!

Unfortunately, there really isn't a Linux distro that consistently outperforms Windows when using NVIDIA cards. The main issue lies with NVIDIA's drivers, which have been known to cause performance loss. They acknowledge the problem, but there’s no timeline for when fixes might come out. So, if you're primarily focused on gaming performance, sticking with Windows might be the better option for now.

It’s really a mixed bag with Linux and NVIDIA. Some games will run better, while others might not. If your main goal is improved performance, Linux might not be the answer right now.
