I've had my 7900GRE for two years now, and it's been excellent for gaming at 1440p. Recently, my partner has shown interest in watching me play games like Expedition 33, Ghost of Tsushima, Resident Evil 4, and Baldur's Gate 3, but it's not very comfortable crowding around my PC monitor. I'm considering connecting my PC to my 4K TV using an optical HDMI. However, I'm worried about how well the 7900GRE will perform at 4K.
I see that the 9070 is currently regarded as the best value for a 4K gaming card. The jump to a high-end card like the 5090 is way too pricey for me. I can trade in my 7900GRE to Micro Center for $280 and pay $580 for the 9070 PowerColor Reaper, making the total upgrade cost $300. Do you think that's a worthwhile investment? I can check benchmarks for 4K myself, but quantifying things like FSR 4 has me stumped. Also, I'm not sure what the GPU market looks like right now—should I grab the 9070, or is it better to wait for the next generation?

Why not give it a shot? If you think you’ll enjoy the benefits of 4K gaming, spending that $300 could improve your experience significantly! Just keep in mind that there’s always a chance you might not find it worth the upgrade depending on your expectations.
While it’s true that the 9070 XT is better, I'd say the $300 upgrade may not be worth it right now. If you’re mostly gaming at 4K casually, you might not see a huge enough difference to make it worthwhile. Plus, consider the fact that the GPU market is always evolving, so it might be better to wait a bit before committing.
I recently upgraded from a Sapphire Pulse 7900GRE to a Nitro+ 9070 XT, and I found that the boost in performance was definitely worth it, especially for 4K gaming! If you're keen on playing modern titles at higher resolutions, it's a solid choice. Just be aware of the performance differences you'll notice—it's quite a leap!

Sure, that’s a valid point, but if you end up disappointed after spending the cash, it could sting a bit. Sometimes it's best to hold out for a better deal or a more significant upgrade.
