Why is my case fan so noisy and could it be causing other issues?

I've been using a Cougar case for a few years, and everything has been fine until recently. Over the past couple of months, the case fan has started making a lot of noise. Today, my PC even froze, and I couldn't turn it off even after holding down the power button. My power supply unit (PSU) is a Gamma HEC-500TV-2WB, which I've had for about six years, and I've been hesitant to replace it. I'm wondering if the noisy fan is connected to these problems, or if it could just be a PSU issue.

It sounds like you've got multiple issues going on. Start by identifying the noisy fan—try stopping it for a moment to see if that resolves the noise. The freezing could be unrelated to the fan; check your temps under load and consider cleaning your PC thoroughly. If you're feeling paranoid about your PSU, it might be worth upgrading since it’s a lower-tier model and could be affecting performance.

First, which specific fan is loud? And just to make sure, check nothing's caught in it or any ports nearby. I wouldn't jump to conclusions about the PSU without ruling out the CPU and GPU fans. They could be the culprits here, especially if they’re working hard. Replacement of the case fan might be an easy fix to consider too!
