Can a 650W PSU Handle a 9070 or 9070 XT for a Short Time?

I'm looking to upgrade to either a 9070 or 9070 XT, and I want to know if my current 650W MSI A650BN 80+ Bronze power supply will be sufficient for a short duration, probably around a month. Here's my build: an MSI Pro B650M-A Wi-Fi motherboard, an AMD Ryzen 5 7500F processor, 16GB DDR5 RAM, and a 1TB Gen4 Kingston SNV3S SSD. I mainly play games at 1080p resolution right now. Can I make this work?

Yes, it should work. I ran my setup with a similar wattage PSU and while under full load (combined stress testing), it pulled around 550W from the wall. With your less power-hungry CPU, you’ll likely be well under 650W during gaming, providing some headroom for your PSU.

Probably doable since your CPU isn't a power hog. Just check your power draw—many people have managed with 650W. If you’re considering any overclocking, it might be wise to grab a higher wattage PSU, though.

For a short period, it should work! Just avoid heavy loads. Keep in mind that your PSU has only 2 PCIe connectors, so you might need a version of the 9070 XT that matches that, like the Sapphire Pulse. For the RX 9070, you should be okay even in the long run without overclocking.

Using a 650W PSU with the 9070 should be fine in the short term. As long as you don’t push it too hard, you might even get away with it long-term if you avoid extreme overclocking. Just make sure you’re not getting the highest OC versions of the card!

Considering you have a Ryzen 5 7500F, you should be fine in the long term without any overclocking. Personally, I undervolt my 9070 XT to keep it cool and quiet, and it works perfectly. Just tweak the power limit and you should be okay!
