Why is Steam causing my PC to freeze during updates?

I've been having issues with my PC freezing whenever I try to launch Steam or update my games. I recently updated my WiFi and NVIDIA drivers, but now I have to turn off anything updating to prevent freezes. When I tried launching a game that needed an update after uninstalling Steam and some related files, my PC froze when I clicked 'yes' on the prompt to allow Steam access. Initially, it was working fine, but after the driver updates, it started having these problems. I even turned off a Microsoft performance boost feature, but the freezing persists. Has anyone faced this issue and found a fix?

It sounds like the driver updates might be causing the freezes, especially if everything was fine before that. Sometimes, new drivers can introduce instability. You might want to try rolling back to the previous version of your NVIDIA driver again and see if that helps. Also, make sure your system isn't overheating; check your cooling system just to be safe.

Freezes during updates usually point towards driver issues or hardware problems. If your PC was running fine for a year, then that recent driver update is likely the culprit. You could also try verifying the integrity of the game files from Steam; it's a quick way to ensure everything is set up right.
