I've been using Claude for my academic writing and research, especially in social sciences, but I'm getting really frustrated with its message limits. I'm also using ChatGPT Pro but find it less effective for this type of work. I tried an older version of Gemini and wasn't impressed. Could anyone share their thoughts on newer alternatives, especially Gemini? I'm looking for something that's not focused on coding and that can help with writing and research effectively.

I totally get what you mean about Claude's limits! It's a fantastic tool, but the resource restrictions can be annoying. Recently, I had a deep conversation using Claude that went from philosophical figures like Hegel to JavaScript coding, and it felt incredibly organic. I'm hoping they will resolve some of these limits soon because I really enjoy its capabilities.
Perplexity is worth trying! It has a research option that works well for citations and verified content, which can be really helpful when writing academically.
Check out Gemini 2.5 Pro! It's been a game changer for me as a grad student in social science. While Claude is great, I've noticed some drop-off in quality recently. Gemini offers a huge context window and has helped me generate paper-level R code tables easily. Just be aware that the free version has a limit of 50 queries per day, which can be frustrating, but it's definitely worth trying out!
The free version is really restricted; I only get about 15 messages before getting kicked out.
Using an IDE combined with AI tools might be your best bet for writing and research. I built my own setup that interacts with open-source research papers from arXiv, allowing me to write and organize research locally. It makes everything much smoother without the hassle of copy-pasting.
I haven't hit the limit with Gemini 2.5 Pro. When I wrote my paper using Claude Pro for editing, I found I rarely reached the limit. So maybe it depends on usage? Have you been pushing it hard?
Isn't it limited to only 50 queries a day?
