Can a Ryzen 7 9800X3D Perform Well on a B650E Motherboard?

Hey everyone, I'm working with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and a Gigabyte B650E AORUS Elite X AX motherboard. I heard someone mention that the CPU could be throttled due to the motherboard choice (comparing B650E to X670E). I believe the VRMs are sufficient, and that the main differences lie in connectivity rather than actual CPU performance in gaming. Can anyone confirm if there are really no bottlenecks for the 9800X3D when using a decent B650E motherboard? Thanks!

Honestly, whoever suggested that your CPU might be throttled doesn't really know what they're talking about. The B650E has all the necessary power stages and VRMs to handle the 9800X3D without any issues, especially if it’s a quality board. In cases where motherboard choice affects performance, it’s usually with Intel CPUs when overclocking, not AMD in this scenario.

Not true at all! The B650E should handle your 9800X3D perfectly. Most of these B650 and B850 motherboards use the same chipset, so the performance will be just fine. Just make sure you avoid those really cheap models that might have poor VRMs.

You're spot on that the differences between B650E and X670E are mainly about connectivity rather than performance. It's a common misconception that leads to confusion! Unless you’re dealing with the very low-end B650 boards which may lack adequate cooling for the VRMs, you shouldn't expect any throttling with a solid B650E board.
