Is the Ryzen 7 5700G a Good Choice for a Budget Gaming PC?

I'm considering building a PC for my girlfriend, who is looking for something better than her old laptop. She's on a budget and wants to save up for a graphics card later. I found a used Ryzen 7 5700G nearby and was wondering if it's a decent option. She mainly plays games like Sims 4 and Roblox, so I'm curious if the 5700G would work well for her.

It really depends! The 5700G has a smaller L3 cache, which can be a drawback for CPU-intensive games. If you’re sure about getting a dedicated GPU later, I’d recommend getting a Ryzen 5 5600X. Pair that with a low-end GPU for now, and make sure you have a quality power supply to support upgrades in the future.

That should be a solid upgrade! Just keep in mind that if you plan on getting a dedicated GPU later, avoid using those that only run on 8 PCIe lanes, such as the 4060 or the 5060 series, since they won't perform as well.

Honestly, a Ryzen 7 might be overkill for just gaming. The Ryzen 5 5600G would be more than sufficient since it uses the same Vega 7 integrated graphics as the 5700G. It’s good for light gaming, especially for something like Sims 4 and Roblox.
