I'm considering upgrading from my GTX 1660, but I'm on a tight budget. I found a used RTX 3080 available for less than a new 5060 Ti 16GB, and it typically outperforms it slightly. My main concern is whether the 3080 is too outdated to invest in right now. I'm not looking at AMD cards due to my preference for DLSS and Ray Tracing performance, and the 4070 is too pricey for me. Essentially, I'm wondering if the 3080 can still hold its own for the next 3-4 years, similar to how the 1080 Ti lasted.

As someone who's used both the RTX 3080 (12GB) and a 5090, I think the 3080 is still fantastic. At 4K, it handles games pretty well with some tweaks, although Cyberpunk 2077 can be demanding. Considering the price difference, the 3080 is still a great value compared to newer models.
I just sold my RTX 3080 and the new owner is loving it in Battlefield 6—it's still a solid card!
I have an EVGA 3080 XC3 10GB, and I’m still hitting 100+ fps at 1440p on most games. Just don’t pay over $300 for it, that’s where I’d draw the line!
Around here, you can’t even snag a 3060 for under $200 anymore!
Too old? Not at all! Just make sure you have a good PSU; 750W is recommended for it. At 1080p, it shines, and at 1440p, it still performs well, though you might run into some VRAM limitations on heavy titles. Definitely not recommended for 4K, though!
If you can get the RTX 3080 12GB, go for it! Even the 3080 Ti is worth considering if the price is right. Just be mindful of your budget!
Is the Ti really worth the extra 25% cost?
I upgraded from a 3080 to a 5080 last year. The 10GB version was starting to show its age at 1440p, but if I hadn't gotten the 5080 for MSRP, I'd still be using the 3080 happily! My brother bought it from me for a good deal and he's enjoying it.

I traded mine for a 3070 because my buddy had issues with VRAM in BF6. He's really happy at 1440p now!
