Is a Redirect to a Strange Website from a YouTube Video a Malware Issue?

I have an older Cyberpower device running Windows with extended security updates. I use both Windows Security and Malwarebytes for protection. Recently, I watched a YouTube video by Kristine Yu about organic cleaning supplies, and when I clicked on one of the links, I was redirected to a suspicious website that claimed my Windows Firewall was failing. I've never encountered this issue before—other videos link correctly to their sites and tools. Could this be a sign of a browser hijack, or might the YouTuber's account be compromised? I've ran scans with Malwarebytes and found no threats, and I'm currently only using AdBlock as an extension. Chrome is up to date, and I did an offline scan on Windows about a week ago. Any thoughts?

You should definitely run the URL through a redirect checker like wheregoes.com. It can reveal if it’s a browser issue or just a bad link. I agree with you—it sounds like a suspicious link, probably more so than malware on your device. Just keep an eye on your security settings!

Yeah, I checked it out, and it seems like the link might have been compromised, which is such a relief. I mainly use this computer for sensitive stuff like job hunting and banking, so it's good to know I might not have a virus!

Exactly! Stay cautious, but it seems like the link could be the culprit rather than your computer. Glad you’re okay!

Honestly, it wouldn’t surprise me if the products linked are just outdated or if the YouTuber's account got hacked. That video is a few years old, and with so many views, they might not maintain it often. The good news is, with computer parts being more accessible now, upgrading could be a viable option instead of getting a new machine altogether!

For sure! I’ve been thinking about visiting local stores for those cleaning products anyway. And if I do upgrade, at least it’ll be less hassle than switching to an entirely new setup!
