How Can I Upgrade My Aging PC for Better CS2 Performance?

Hey everyone! I'm trying to find a budget-friendly way to upgrade my old PC, as the current RAM prices are pretty steep and I want to avoid an expensive AM5 DDR5 setup. I primarily play CS2 at 1080x1080, usually on low settings. However, I sometimes experience performance drops that affect my game experience (I have a 180Hz monitor). My current setup includes an i5-10600KF (overclocked to 4.9GHz), an MSI Z490 A-Pro motherboard, an RTX 2060, 16GB of RAM (2x8GB) running at 3600MHz, a 700W PSU, and a 500GB NVMe drive. I'm considering upgrading to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D and a new motherboard but I'd like to keep the rest of my setup. I think I can find a used combo for around 350-400 euros. What do you folks think?

I have an LGA1200 motherboard with an i3-10100F available. If you're looking to sell your CPU, let me know!

Sure! But I’m located in Poland, so shipping might be a bit much for you.

Honestly, for CS2, your CPU should be fine. The RTX 2060 is likely the real bottleneck with your 180Hz setup. Upgrading to a 5800X3D could help, but you'll probably see bigger performance improvements with a newer GPU like the 4060 Ti or 4070 while keeping your current setup.

Yes, the 5800X3D is more than adequate for competitive gaming like CS2. For the GPU, I recommend checking out the RX 6750 XT or the 3070 Ti. With those upgrades, you should be able to run at 1080p with solid framerates.

You might not need the 5800X3D at all. I’d suggest looking into the 5700X3D instead—it's cheaper and offers similar performance. Your current motherboard should support it, but getting something like a B550 board would be a smart choice.

If you can score a 5700X3D or 5800X3D at a good price, go for it. Another option to consider is a DDR4 compatible board with a 14600K; it’s pretty close in performance to the 5800X3D and might be easier to find.
