What Could Be Causing My PC’s Black Screen During Boot?

I recently experienced a frustrating issue with my PC. After turning it on and reaching the 'Please wait' screen during Windows loading, the screen suddenly turned black with only the mouse cursor visible. This happened twice in a row, which really concerned me. I've heard that if a problem recurs, it's generally a sign that there might be something wrong. Additionally, I noticed that Windows Update was showing an update, but the 'Check for updates' screen seemed stuck. Could this stuck update be causing the black screen or the delayed loading?

It sounds like a good idea to run a DISM and SFC scan to fix any system issues. Sometimes these scans can help resolve problems like the one you're experiencing.

I tried just restarting instead of a full shutdown on my third attempt, and it worked! Windows managed to process the update, which had been stuck. It was a security update that asked for another restart to complete successfully. After that, my PC booted up just fine, with no black screen at all. I think it was definitely the stuck update causing the issue!
