Dealing with DUO Installation Issues on a Laptop

I have a user with a laptop that hasn't been used since summer. Now that they're working from home, they tried to log in, but a DUO pop-up appeared at the login screen saying:

'"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'DUOWLMSI.tmp' in the box below."

It also lists the folder path as c:\WINDOWS\TEMP\{480403....

If I click the cancel button a few times, I can finally get to the login screen, and their DUO MFA push works fine. I noticed the DUO version on their PC is a bit outdated, so I thought about uninstalling and reinstalling it. However, uninstalling DUO prompts the same error referencing the DUOWLMSI.tmp file, and I can't install a new version over it. I'm stuck and unsure how to remove it without wiping the entire PC!

I ran into something like this with Zoom once. If the MSI used for installation is missing, you can't uninstall or upgrade the app. You either need that exact MSI or you can dive into the registry and remove all entries referencing the app. In my case, I deleted the leftover files and then cleared the registry entries, which allowed me to install the latest version.

So I should check the registry for anything related to DUO and delete it?
