I have a projector that only has one HDMI port and a corresponding single HDMI option on the menu. I'm considering getting an HDMI splitter and I'm curious if it would work for my setup. Specifically, will a splitter actually add an extra HDMI option, or is that not how it functions? Is it meant to be used in this way?

Honestly, a splitter just takes one HDMI signal and shares it across two monitors, so they both display the same image. If that's your goal, then sure, it will work! But remember, if you want different images on each screen, you’ll need something like a video wall controller, which is a whole different setup.
If you choose to go the splitter route, just know that it'll mirror the same picture on both outputs. So if that's what you're looking for, go for it! Otherwise, I'd suggest considering a powered HDMI switch – that might serve you better for switching between various devices.
What you really need is an HDMI switch instead of a splitter. A switch will allow you to select between multiple HDMI sources, but it won’t add another HDMI choice directly to your projector. You’d typically control it with a button or remote on the switch itself. So keep that in mind!
