Hey everyone! I recently bought the 9800X3D processor and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed trying to choose a suitable motherboard. I've heard some horror stories about certain motherboards frying CPUs, especially ones from Asus and ASRock. I have a budget of around $270, and I'm currently considering the GIGABYTE AORUS ELITE B850. Can anyone provide advice or recommendations? Thanks a lot!

From what I've seen, the main brand to avoid right now is ASRock, as their AM5 boards have a notably high failure rate with X3D CPUs. Most other brands are doing well, so you should be fine as long as the board has the features you want and is reasonably priced. I have the Gigabyte Aorus Master X870E and aside from a minor RAM issue after a BIOS update, it works great with my 9800X3D.
I've had good experiences with my X870E-E chipset motherboard. If you're looking for options within your budget, the MSI boards are worth checking out. Personally, I'm eyeing the MSI Godlike motherboard for my next build!
When it comes to managing your X3D CPU, try to avoid ASRock motherboards—they have a reputation for causing issues. The GIGABYTE B850 AORUS ELITE WIFI7 is an excellent choice, and alternatives like the MSI MAG B850 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI or Asus TUF GAMING B850-PLUS WIFI are also great options around the $200 range. Anything pricier is mostly just for aesthetics unless you're looking for features more suited to productivity builds.
I've had my share of instability issues with Asus too. I recommend sticking to Gigabyte or MSI—they've really improved over the years.
I actually paired my 9800X3D with a B850 Asus motherboard and it runs perfectly. If you're wary, definitely steer clear of ASRock boards.
