Hey everyone! I just finished building a new PC after having my old one for a decade. It's powered by a Ryzen 7 7800x3d and a Gigabyte 5070 12GB GPU. I'm currently using an old 27" Samsung 1080p monitor, but I'm planning to get a new Gigabyte G34WQCP tomorrow on sale and use the Samsung as a second monitor.
So far, I've switched from Edge to Chrome with adblock, installed Steam, and updated my Nvidia drivers. Right now, I'm downloading Path of Exile 2, but it's gonna take a couple of hours due to slow internet.
My question is, aside from the GPU drivers, what else should I optimize? Should I be tweaking any BIOS settings or adjusting the Nvidia settings? I haven't had a decent computer for a while, and I want to make sure I get the best performance out of it without going overboard. Am I worrying too much, or should I be doing something more? Thanks for your help!

To boost performance, focus on software tweaks. Change CPU power settings, use Ethernet for better speeds, and disable Windows Game Mode to avoid stuttering. Don't forget to set your games to high performance in the graphics settings. Also, make sure your refresh rate matches your monitor!
Overclocking isn't needed these days. Graphics cards can perform well without it, especially modern models like the 40 series. Minor performance increases usually aren't worth the extra heat and hassle, so you can skip that and enjoy your new setup!
I wasn’t planning on overclocking either, just considering some minor BIOS tweaks.
Totally agree! It's better to stick with default settings unless you're going for very specific tweaks.
Honestly, you're overthinking it a bit. If everything runs smoothly and meets your needs, just enjoy! Adjustments can be fun for some, but if it works, why mess with it?
Exactly! Test it out first. If things work well, keep it as is. There's no need to fix what isn't broken!
Consider running TronScript to clean up unnecessary stuff and improve performance. It can remove tracking and bloat that comes pre-installed with Windows.
I’ve heard of that! I’ll look into it for sure.
Look into undervolting your GPU and enabling EXPO for RAM. Those adjustments can help improve performance without extra heat.
Before doing any driver updates, remember to avoid auto-updates for drivers. Sometimes the latest versions can cause issues, so stick to stable releases for peace of mind. And for your display, make sure G-Sync or FreeSync is enabled for a smoother gaming experience.
Don’t forget to install your chipset drivers! They're essential for overall system stability.
Check if your GPU has a dual BIOS switch. If it does, set it to performance mode for better output!
Thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely check that out.
I’d definitely add stress testing to your checklist after you update everything. It's a great step!
